Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus and “see” God!

Saturday 7-30-2016   Home in Modesto
Scripture Reading:  Isaiah 60 – 62    John 1
S=Scripture  O=Observation  A=Application  P=Prayer  SOAP for the soul.

S.  John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Vs 16-18 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.  NKJV

O.  The writer is John the humble fisherman that was called from the shore to abandon his fishing business and follow a man that was walking down the beach.  Unlike Dr. Luke, John writes with common, uncomplicated words, yet he takes us directly to the very core of the Gospel.  Jesus is God the Son Who descended to walk with us and show us the face of the Father.  Four times in these few verses, John inserts the word “grace” in contrast to the Jewish emphasis on the Mosaic “law.”

A.  I love to preach about Jesus, because when we open our spiritual eyes to “see” Jesus, everything changes.  Our present world is enamored with visual images, static and moving.  They beckon, even demand our attention.  But as I “look” at Jesus, fix my eyes upon Him, the clamor and glamour of worldly attractions fade into the shadows.

P.  Thank You for coming, Lord Jesus, and for the beautiful history written by those that walked with You. I might have had a concept of a demanding God with a hammer in his hand, but You showed me Your Father.  And today I bathe in the sunshine of His great love, mercy and grace.  Amen.

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of Earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
Oh soul are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness to see
There's a light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free
His words shall not fail you, He promised
Believe Him and all will be well
Then go to a world that is dying
His perfect salvation to tell
Oh soul are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness to see
There's a light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of Earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
