Scripture Reading: Prov 22 –
24 Rom 14
S=Scripture O=Observation
A=Application P=Prayer SOAP for the soul.
S. Prov 23:29-33 Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes?
Those who linger long at the wine, Those who go in search of mixed wine.
Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it
swirls around smoothly; At the last it bites like a serpent, And stings like a
viper. Your eyes will see strange things, And your heart will utter perverse
things. NKJV
O. This is only part of this
portion which warns of the dangers of drinking alcoholic beverages, but it is
enough for me to choose to avoid it completely.
A. I thank God for a
mother who drilled this scripture, and others like it, into my soul. But
she did much more. She took us to the worse streets of Portland, Oregon, where
the alcoholics hung out around cheap bars. She let us see them stagger and fall
and smell their vomit. She taught us to love the poor, trapped, sinner... but
hate the sin that had dragged him down. I have Christian acquaintances that
drink and even joke about it. But if you set the cup of the finest wine before
me, I guarantee it will be flushed down the toilet. No joke about it.
P. Yes, Lord, You
blessed me with a wise and loving mother who believed and taught us kids the
Holy Scriptures... especially this one. We kids might get snagged
somewhere else, but not by this nasty, satanic trap. Praise God
forever! Amen.
Ralph
