Today we
read 1 Timothy 5 – 6 and Titus 1 - 3
S. 1 Tim 5:18 For the Scripture says, "Do not keep an ox from
eating as it treads out the grain."
NLT (Also Duet 25:4)
O. So here we preachers are
compared to dumb oxen treading in a circle to grind the wheat into fine
flour. And somehow it fits… at least when we are taking up the
offering. And we do not feel insulted since it teaches that at least we
should be treated like a beast and be allowed to eat for our labor.
“Moooo.”
A. I cannot remember a time when
we had to miss a meal. But maybe that’s because my memory is
slipping. J
Ha. The whole truth is, when the church could not pay, I took a job driving
school bus part time, did sign painting, scrubbed the bathroom floors of public
schools at night and cleaned the classrooms, painted the halls and class rooms
and whatever else the Lord provided for me. We never got overly wealthy,
but we and our little calves ate good, healthy food regularly.
P. Lord, I find that most of our
church authorities have now read Your comparison of their pastor to an ox and,
thanks to Brother Moses and the Apostle Paul, they follow through whenever
possible. Amen.
Ralph
