Who do You think You are anyway!

Scripture Reading:  Hosea 6 – 9    Hebrews 3

S.  Heb 3:3-7  For this One (Jesus) has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house.  For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.  NKJV

O. The Lord Jesus shocked the Jewish leaders with: “Jonah’s message brought a great city to repentance, but... Open your eyes! A greater than Jonah is here!”   And “The queen of Sheba came so far to hear the wisdom of Solomon, but... Open your eyes! A greater than Solomon is here!  Now here the writer of Hebrews dares to touch their darling... the Jews’ most revered prophet, and in effect, he is saying “Open your eyes!  One greater than Moses is here!”  The Samaritan woman at the well said, “Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well?” Later: “The Jews ridiculed Jesus: Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead?  Who do You think You are anyway?!”  (John 8:53) Then in vs 58 “Jesus jolted them with ‘BEFORE ABRAHAM WAS... I AM!’”  (NUHV)*  That did it!  They knew He was identifying Himself with “I AM” the name of Jehovah God their Creator and they picked up stones to kill Him.

A.  Jesus knew Who He was.  And He let me know Who He is!

P.  Jesus, You are presented in Hebrews as One greater than the Angels and greater than Moses... but You trumped them all with “Before Abraham was... I AM!”  I do not have to doubt Who You are.  You are the Way, the Truth and the Life.  Today You have given me the privilege of bowing before You once again to acknowledge Your supremacy over all the prophets and all the angels of heaven... for You are the One and Only Unique Son of the Living God!  As I worship You, I am also worshipping Your Father... for You and Your Father are One.  Amen.
